Chat

The Chat section lets you send instant messages to people inside your organisation.

Think of it like a private WhatsApp inside JMS, but only for work.

You can:

  • Message one person
  • Create group chats
  • See who is online
  • Talk without sending emails

  1. Look at the left menu
  2. Click Communications
  3. Click Chat

The screen is split into three main areas:

  • Conversations list (left)
  • Chat messages (middle)
  • Chat tools (right)

On the left, you see all your chats.

  • A search bar to find conversations
  • Two tabs:
    • Contacts – one-on-one chats
    • Groups – group chats
  • A list of people or groups you’ve chatted with

Click a name to open that conversation.

This is where the conversation happens.

  • Read previous messages
  • Type a new message at the bottom
  • Press Enter or click Send to send it

Messages appear instantly for the other person if they are online.

Next to names, you may see a small indicator:

  • Online means the person is active
  • Offline means they are not currently online

This helps you know if someone is likely to reply quickly.

  1. Go to Contacts
  2. Click the person’s name
  3. Type your message
  4. Send

That’s it.

Group chats are useful for teams, projects, or departments.

  1. Click the New group chat button
  2. Enter a Group name (for example: “Payroll Team”)
  3. Select the members
  4. Click Create group

Everyone in the group can now chat together.

When a chat is open, you may see options like:

  • Search in chat – find older messages
  • Conversation info – see group members or details

These help you manage longer conversations.

Use Chat when:

  • You need a quick answer
  • You want to avoid long email threads
  • You are working with a team in real time

Do not use Chat for:

  • Formal announcements
  • Important records (use Email or Channels instead)

This page gives you the big picture.

The Chat demo video will show:

  • How to start a chat
  • How to create a group
  • How messages appear in real time

Both the guide and the video explain the same flow.

You now understand how Chat works in JMS.

Next, you can explore:

  • Channels (for announcements)
  • Email (for formal communication)
  • Surveys (for feedback)
