Channels

The Channels section is used for internal communication inside JMS.

This area helps users share announcements, read notices, post updates, comment on discussions, and manage team communication in one place.

Channels are divided into two main areas:

  • Noticeboard
  • Channels

The Noticeboard is mainly used for official notices and announcements.
The Channels area is used for team conversations, discussions, and shared messages.

When the Channels page opens, the left panel shows a list of available boards and channels.

If nothing is selected yet, the main workspace displays a message asking the user to select a board or channel.

This keeps the page clean and allows the user to choose where they want to work.

The left panel is used to move between different boards and channels.

It includes:

  • A search option
  • A Noticeboard section
  • A Channels section
  • Board and channel names
  • Menu buttons for additional options

The left panel helps users quickly find the communication area they need.

The search option allows users to look for a board or channel by name.

This is useful when there are many boards or channels and the user wants to find one quickly instead of scrolling through the full list.

The Noticeboard section is used for important notices and official updates.

Boards under this section may include announcements such as:

  • Company notices
  • CEO updates
  • Partnership updates
  • Software rollout information
  • General business announcements

Each noticeboard can contain multiple notices. When a noticeboard is selected, JMS displays the notices linked to that board.

The menu beside the Noticeboard section provides extra options.

These may include:

  • New Board
  • Settings

The New Board option allows a user to create a new noticeboard.

The form includes:

  • Title
  • Description

A noticeboard should have a clear name so users understand what type of notices will be posted there.

The Settings option opens noticeboard management tools.

This area can include:

  • Scheduled Notices
  • Archived Notices
  • Sort Boards

Scheduled notices are notices prepared to be posted later.
Archived notices are older notices that have been removed from the active view.
Sort Boards helps organise the order of noticeboards in the sidebar.

The Tab Groups section allows boards and channels to be assigned to the correct group in the left sidebar.

For example, a board can be placed under Noticeboard, while a normal discussion space can be placed under Channels.

This helps keep the sidebar organised and makes it easier for users to find the correct communication area.

The Reset to defaults option can be used to return items to their original grouping.

Each board can have its own settings.

Board settings may allow users to:

  • Rename the board
  • Add posters
  • Control who can post notices

This helps ensure that only the correct users are able to publish official notices in that board.

Inside a noticeboard, the New notice button is used to create a notice.

The notice form includes:

  • Subject
  • Message
  • Teams
  • Scheduled Post
  • Upload Attachment

The subject is the title of the notice. It should be short and clear.

The message area is where the notice content is written.

The editor includes formatting options such as headings, bold text, alignment, lists, links, and font size. This helps users make notices easier to read.

The Teams field allows the notice to be linked to a specific team when needed.

The scheduled post option allows a notice to be prepared now and published later.

Attachments can be added when the notice needs to include supporting files.

When a noticeboard is selected, the middle column displays notices linked to that board.

Each notice card may show:

  • Notice title
  • Author
  • Short preview
  • Date and time
  • Views
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Pin indicator, when applicable

Selecting a notice opens the full details on the right side of the screen.

The notice detail view shows the full notice content.

This area may include:

  • Notice title
  • Posted by information
  • Date and time
  • Visibility information
  • Edit option
  • Delete option
  • Like count
  • View count
  • Comments
  • New Comment button
  • Manage Visibility option

This gives users one place to read the full notice and respond to it.

Notices can include comments from users.

Users may reply to comments and view threaded replies where available.

This helps keep discussions connected to the original notice instead of spreading information across different places.

The Channels section is used for regular team communication.

Channels are useful for ongoing discussions, team updates, and shared conversations.

A channel can be public or private.

  • Public channels are available to all users.
  • Private channels are limited to selected users.

The Create channel option allows a user to create a new communication channel.

The form includes:

  • Channel name
  • Channel type

The channel name should describe the topic or team clearly.

The channel type controls who can access it.

Available options include:

  • Public
  • Private

Public channels are useful for open team communication.
Private channels are useful for selected groups or sensitive conversations.

The Channel settings option gives access to management tools for channels.

This area may include:

  • Archived Channels
  • Sort Channels

Archived channels are channels that are no longer active but can still be reviewed or restored.
Sort Channels helps organise the order of channels in the sidebar.

The Archived Channels page shows channels that have been archived.

Each archived channel may include:

  • Channel name
  • Archived status
  • Restore option
  • Remove option

Restore brings the channel back into active use.
Remove permanently removes the archived channel.

When a channel is selected, users can view messages posted in that channel.

The message area may include:

  • Message writer
  • Date and time
  • Message content
  • Reactions
  • Comments
  • Replies
  • Pinned messages
  • Message menu options

Users can write a new message in the message box at the top of the channel.

Each message can include menu options.

These may include:

  • Collapse
  • Pin

Collapse hides part of a long message or thread to make the page easier to read.

Pin keeps an important message visible so users can find it more easily later.

Channel messages can also have comments.

Users can add a new comment, reply to existing comments, and view replies in a thread.

This keeps conversations organised under the correct message.

Some channels include a Manage members option.

This page shows the current members of the channel and allows permitted users to manage access.

The member list may show:

  • User name
  • Email address
  • Remove option

This is especially useful for private channels where access needs to be controlled.

Use Channels when you need to:

  • Read official company notices
  • Share announcements with teams
  • Create noticeboards for different topics
  • Post updates in team channels
  • Comment on notices or messages
  • Manage channel members
  • Keep communication organised in one place

In short, Channels helps JMS users stay informed, communicate clearly, and keep important updates easy to find.
