Channels
Section titled “Channels”The Channels section is used for internal communication inside JMS.
This area helps users share announcements, read notices, post updates, comment on discussions, and manage team communication in one place.
Channels are divided into two main areas:
- Noticeboard
- Channels
The Noticeboard is mainly used for official notices and announcements.
The Channels area is used for team conversations, discussions, and shared messages.
Channels overview
Section titled “Channels overview”When the Channels page opens, the left panel shows a list of available boards and channels.
If nothing is selected yet, the main workspace displays a message asking the user to select a board or channel.
This keeps the page clean and allows the user to choose where they want to work.
Left panel
Section titled “Left panel”The left panel is used to move between different boards and channels.
It includes:
- A search option
- A Noticeboard section
- A Channels section
- Board and channel names
- Menu buttons for additional options
The left panel helps users quickly find the communication area they need.
Search channels
Section titled “Search channels”The search option allows users to look for a board or channel by name.
This is useful when there are many boards or channels and the user wants to find one quickly instead of scrolling through the full list.
Noticeboard
Section titled “Noticeboard”The Noticeboard section is used for important notices and official updates.
Boards under this section may include announcements such as:
- Company notices
- CEO updates
- Partnership updates
- Software rollout information
- General business announcements
Each noticeboard can contain multiple notices. When a noticeboard is selected, JMS displays the notices linked to that board.
Noticeboard actions
Section titled “Noticeboard actions”The menu beside the Noticeboard section provides extra options.
These may include:
- New Board
- Settings
New Board
Section titled “New Board”The New Board option allows a user to create a new noticeboard.
The form includes:
- Title
- Description
A noticeboard should have a clear name so users understand what type of notices will be posted there.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”The Settings option opens noticeboard management tools.
This area can include:
- Scheduled Notices
- Archived Notices
- Sort Boards
Scheduled notices are notices prepared to be posted later.
Archived notices are older notices that have been removed from the active view.
Sort Boards helps organise the order of noticeboards in the sidebar.
Tab Groups
Section titled “Tab Groups”The Tab Groups section allows boards and channels to be assigned to the correct group in the left sidebar.
For example, a board can be placed under Noticeboard, while a normal discussion space can be placed under Channels.
This helps keep the sidebar organised and makes it easier for users to find the correct communication area.
The Reset to defaults option can be used to return items to their original grouping.
Board settings
Section titled “Board settings”Each board can have its own settings.
Board settings may allow users to:
- Rename the board
- Add posters
- Control who can post notices
This helps ensure that only the correct users are able to publish official notices in that board.
Creating a new notice
Section titled “Creating a new notice”Inside a noticeboard, the New notice button is used to create a notice.
The notice form includes:
- Subject
- Message
- Teams
- Scheduled Post
- Upload Attachment
Subject
Section titled “Subject”The subject is the title of the notice. It should be short and clear.
Message
Section titled “Message”The message area is where the notice content is written.
The editor includes formatting options such as headings, bold text, alignment, lists, links, and font size. This helps users make notices easier to read.
The Teams field allows the notice to be linked to a specific team when needed.
Scheduled Post
Section titled “Scheduled Post”The scheduled post option allows a notice to be prepared now and published later.
Upload Attachment
Section titled “Upload Attachment”Attachments can be added when the notice needs to include supporting files.
Viewing notices
Section titled “Viewing notices”When a noticeboard is selected, the middle column displays notices linked to that board.
Each notice card may show:
- Notice title
- Author
- Short preview
- Date and time
- Views
- Likes
- Comments
- Pin indicator, when applicable
Selecting a notice opens the full details on the right side of the screen.
Notice details
Section titled “Notice details”The notice detail view shows the full notice content.
This area may include:
- Notice title
- Posted by information
- Date and time
- Visibility information
- Edit option
- Delete option
- Like count
- View count
- Comments
- New Comment button
- Manage Visibility option
This gives users one place to read the full notice and respond to it.
Comments and replies
Section titled “Comments and replies”Notices can include comments from users.
Users may reply to comments and view threaded replies where available.
This helps keep discussions connected to the original notice instead of spreading information across different places.
Channels section
Section titled “Channels section”The Channels section is used for regular team communication.
Channels are useful for ongoing discussions, team updates, and shared conversations.
A channel can be public or private.
- Public channels are available to all users.
- Private channels are limited to selected users.
Creating a new channel
Section titled “Creating a new channel”The Create channel option allows a user to create a new communication channel.
The form includes:
- Channel name
- Channel type
Channel name
Section titled “Channel name”The channel name should describe the topic or team clearly.
Channel type
Section titled “Channel type”The channel type controls who can access it.
Available options include:
- Public
- Private
Public channels are useful for open team communication.
Private channels are useful for selected groups or sensitive conversations.
Channel settings
Section titled “Channel settings”The Channel settings option gives access to management tools for channels.
This area may include:
- Archived Channels
- Sort Channels
Archived channels are channels that are no longer active but can still be reviewed or restored.
Sort Channels helps organise the order of channels in the sidebar.
Archived channels
Section titled “Archived channels”The Archived Channels page shows channels that have been archived.
Each archived channel may include:
- Channel name
- Archived status
- Restore option
- Remove option
Restore brings the channel back into active use.
Remove permanently removes the archived channel.
Channel messages
Section titled “Channel messages”When a channel is selected, users can view messages posted in that channel.
The message area may include:
- Message writer
- Date and time
- Message content
- Reactions
- Comments
- Replies
- Pinned messages
- Message menu options
Users can write a new message in the message box at the top of the channel.
Message actions
Section titled “Message actions”Each message can include menu options.
These may include:
- Collapse
- Pin
Collapse
Section titled “Collapse”Collapse hides part of a long message or thread to make the page easier to read.
Pin keeps an important message visible so users can find it more easily later.
Comments inside channels
Section titled “Comments inside channels”Channel messages can also have comments.
Users can add a new comment, reply to existing comments, and view replies in a thread.
This keeps conversations organised under the correct message.
Managing channel members
Section titled “Managing channel members”Some channels include a Manage members option.
This page shows the current members of the channel and allows permitted users to manage access.
The member list may show:
- User name
- Email address
- Remove option
This is especially useful for private channels where access needs to be controlled.
When to use Channels
Section titled “When to use Channels”Use Channels when you need to:
- Read official company notices
- Share announcements with teams
- Create noticeboards for different topics
- Post updates in team channels
- Comment on notices or messages
- Manage channel members
- Keep communication organised in one place
In short, Channels helps JMS users stay informed, communicate clearly, and keep important updates easy to find.
